SEO, A Companion

Google only loves you when everyone else loves you first

Search Engine Optimization in short SEO simply means the process of improving your site to increase its visibility for relevant searches simply it’s a practice of increasing both the quality and quantity of website traffic, as well as exposure to your brand, through non-paid search engine results. SEO is crucial to a business to attract prospective and existing customers to your business as it provides better visibility to your pages when searched

Most of us are familiar with the fact that Search engines are answer machines. But what we do not know is how these “answer machines” provide us the relevant answers. When we require information, we simply type the question on a search engine like Google, Bing, etc., and almost all the time we get an accurate result but have you ever wondered how?

For example, think of what a librarian does. He has hundreds to thousands of books in a library. And when a customer needs a specific book the librarian must find it. We all know that he is not going to check every book but instead the books are categorized and sorted in separate sections based on the characteristics and genre of each book. Search engines work based on a similar way and the process is somewhat simple. when you ask a  question, the engine searches through billions of contents and evaluates through thousands of factors to answer accurately as possible. The terms “Crawling and Indexing’ is discovering and cataloging all available content on the Internet (web pages, PDFs, images, videos, etc.) via a  process by the search engine. Afterward, the quality of the result matching the query in a  process is called “ranking”. These terms may sound complex, but the process is as simple as using a search engine.

SEO is fundamental to a lot of businesses, individuals, and sectors at present but one of the notable sectors would be digital marketing. Search is often the primary source of digital traffic for brands and complements other marketing channels. With trillions of searches conducted every year, digital marketing agencies must survive with the heavy competition available. As a result in the past few years, the search results have been evolving over the past few years to give users more direct answers and information that is more likely to keep users on the results page instead of driving them to other websites.

Throughout all these years search engines have also done their bit of development. For example, Google has subsection search engines for specific search results (E.g. Google Scholar) and a  common feature in all search engines is the segmentation such as images, videos, maps, etc.  Different search engines have unique characteristics, but the SEO process is always the same.

Search Engine Optimization is a very vast area, and it covers certain areas such as keyword researching, on-site optimization, technical SEO, etc. and it also keeps expanding as time passes. Knowing what SEO is and how its process looks like is important to have a clear understanding when using websites and pages or if you wish to promote your business online.
